Osun Assembly Approve 65 Years As Retirement Age

The State of Osun House of Assembly has passed the bill seeking the extension of the retirement age of teaching and non-teaching staff of the state-owned tertiary institutions from 60 to 65 years. The bill was passed sequel to a motion moved by the leader of House, Honourable Timothy Owoeye on Thursday shortly after it passed through the committee of whole and necessary ammendment were made from clauses one to four. The teaching and non-teaching teaching staff of the institutions have been on strike since February over their demand for the extension of the retirement age among other agitations. The Speaker, Honourable Najeem Salaam was optimistic that the passage of the bill would resolve the crisis between the staff of the tertiary institutions and the government.  "By the passage of this bill, I think we have resolved the issue of the retirement age that has been a contention in our tertiary institutions. Economic Depression -Cause of Security Challenges - Aregbesola.

The current security challenges the country is facing has been attributed to the economic depression the nation  is facing. Governor of the state of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola made the assertion today in Osogbo at the opening of a two -day capacity building training for security personnel . Governor Rauf Aregbesola of  state of Osun has promised to continue to initiate and implement various programmes aimed at developing the state, if re-elected into office in the coming August 9 election. HRAN Commends Osun State on the Passage of its Protection Against Domestic Violence Law of 2013

Human Rights Agenda Network (HRAN) commends the executive, legislature and entire People of State of Osun for their giant stride in the justice sector, by passing into Law, the Protection Against Domestic Violence Law of 2013. HRAN notes that the importance and values of this Law can never be over-emphasized, and so urges the government and people of the State to ensure effective applicability of the Law in the State. A similar version of this Law is currently before the Senate at the Federal level and has been passed by some other States like Ekiti, Lagos etc.   Domestic violence is a cankerworm, dreaded but very present in every society. RAMP CAN HELP IN BOOSTING THE ECONOMY -Aregbesola.

The Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP) has been described as a means of creating a peaceful coexistence among Nigerians as well as boosting the economy if handled with commitment. This was the view of the Governor of the state of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola at the opening of a 3-day Workshop on 'Message Development, Review, Testing and Harmonization on RAMP Communications' for all the six States involved in the project. The government of the state of Osun has assured the relations of all victims of the 14th April, 2007 Gubernatorial/ House of Assembly Election in the state of Osun that their death as a result of bravery will be in vain.   Speaking to reporters last Monday on the occasion of the 8th Anniversary of the bloodiest election in the history of the state, The State Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Mr Sunday Akere said that everything possible will be done to immortalize them as heroes and martyrs of democracy.   According to him, the memory of the harmless young men that were killed at various polling units across the state while defending ballot boxes from being forcefully hijacked and carted away will not rest until free, fair, credible and transparent election is entrenched as the order of the day not only in Osun but all over Nigeria. OSSIEC Judgment - Court Decline Jurisdiction To Entertain Suit

Justice F.E Awolalu of Court 2 High Court of Justice Osogbo today dismissed the case instituted against the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) and ten others which include the State Governor, Atttorney General and Commissioner for Justice and others. The case was instituted by Hon. Akanfe Atidade, Ademola Abioye, Hon, Mutiu Abiola, Hon. Segun Amure Lawrence for themselves and on behalf of Chairmen and Counsellorship aspirants of the People Democratic Party and Accord Party in the State. Delivering her judgment, Justice Awolalu considered the issues raised by the plaintiff by way of originating summon and preliminary objections raised by the defendants before finally dismissing the case of the plaintiff in its entirety.
