YOUTHS TASK TO USE THE NEW GDP TO THEIR ADVANTAGE

Nigerian youths have been charged to make use of the nation's recently rebased Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which placed Nigeria as the nation with the largest economy in Africa and 26th in the world as
announced few days ago, to better their lots.

The Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Education in the State of Osun, Mrs. Grace Titilayo Laoye-Tomori, gave this charge as a guest lecturer at the conferment of an Award of Excellence on Professor
Afolabi Ojo, the founding father of the Department of Geography, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife tagged; The Role of Geography in Contemporary Nigerian Society which held at the University campus.

In her speech titled: Recognition as Motivation, Mrs. Laoye-Tomori urged every young university lecturer to emulate Professor Ojo in the discharge of his/her duties, to display leadership traits together
with commitments to service, stating further that, a day for being rewarded like Professor Ojo is just around the corner.

She said that, the award is in tandem with academic excellence, one aimed at ensuring that, present crop of academics are focussed, hardworking and contribute handsomely to the promotion of the nation's tertiary education.

Mrs. Laoye-Tomori, also stated that, Nigeria as a nation is blessed with an avalanche of talented and vibrant youths together with diverse mineral resources which if when annexed will positively transform Nigerians beyond the level at which the nation's oil has brought the nation .

According to her, the present administration in the State has invested massively into the state's education sector with a view to making the sector students' oriented and centred.

She emphasised that, the State Government of Osun feeds Elementary school pupils every school day, give School uniform freely to every pupil and student in the state public schools, paid their WAEC fees,
reclassify schools, increased grants to public schools and freely distribute Opon Imo (Tablets of Knowledge) to every high school student in the state.

Present at the ceremony was the Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oba Omowonuola Oyeyode Oyesosin, people in the academic world, politicians and people from the business world.
