The supreme court today affirmed governor Rauf Aregbesola as the duly elected governor of the in the last August 9, 2014 governorship election held in the state of Osun.
The court dismisses the appeal brought before it by the candidate of People Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Iyiola Omisore challenging the election result that returned the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
Justice John Fabiyi who led the seven man panel while delivering his judgement upheld the judgment of the Appeal Court in Akure and the Osun State governorship election tribunal.
The Appeal court and the election tribunal had both affirmed Aregbesola’s victory.
According to Daily Post, in the lead judgment read by Justice C.C. Nweze, six of the seven issues brought before the court were resolved in favour of the Osun governor while one was against him.
He said all the justices thereafter unanimously decided that the appeal lacked merit and was bound to be dismissed.
