The Questions Of Insecurity In Nigeria

Insecurity in Nigeria has posed a national questions in which up till this moment no formidable answer has been provided. If Britain had failed to proffer solution to insecurity challenges in the country before independence and Nigeria rulers failed to do this after almost 53 years of independence (1960-2013), something is definitely wrong with the approach so far. Does it not occur to the president that we should get back to the drawing board? Safeguarding the sovereign, independence and territorial integrity of the state was the central pillar of Nigeria national security policy. Other guiding principles were Africa unity and independence, non-intervention in internal affairs of other states, and regional economic development and security cooperation. Subordinate goals included military self-sufficiency and regional leadership. In pursuing these goals, Nigeria was diplomatic and flexible, but it employed coercive method or measured force when necessary. Nigeria , was

The Imperative for a Political Platform of Nigeria’s Working People (1)   From (1). It has also turned out that both the ethno-nationalist, geopolitical and confessional divides in Nigeria had become veritable instrument in the hand of global imperialism and especially in respect of USA’s alleged “war on terror” By 2009, US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, was already insisting that Boko-Haram had links with Al-Qaeda thus providing a template for mainstreaming: Boko Haram into US ‘s war on terror and providing excuses for US’s intelligent and military organization to openly take control of Nigeria’s police and related security outfits barking orders at them and issuing self-serving security alerts to Nigeria people. Although it is common knowledge that USA has been taking to the Taliban since 2005 or so and seeking diplomatic and political solutions to the crisis in Afghanistan, US and EU officials periodically ask their Nigerian clones not to dialogue with Boko Haram. So

The Imperative for a Political Platform of Nigeria’s Working People(1)

For about three decades now, Nigeria had been in a deepening crisis for neo-colonialism on one hand and parasitism of the indigenous ruling class on the other. The neo-colonial aspect of it had entailed the continued dominance of foreign interest led by western capitalist forces and their international financial institution (the IMF and the World Bank) control from the metropolises of the trades” (USA, Europe and Japan). The triad had, of course, pound new centers arising from the so called globalization, now known as the BRICS (Brazil, Russian, Indian, China and South Africa) our indigenous ruling class in the said crisis is composed of various ethnics and conventional factions united by their primary pre- occupation with primitive accumulation.

Change Agents In An Emerging Democratic Process (3)

The Role Of Change Agents From the forgoing summary (1) (2) , it is clear that the Nigerian political environment has always been hostile to radical, revolutionary change. The situation has been compounded by the three decade of fascist military rules which as liquidated the ranks of forces of change in favor of the oppressed and exploited majority. The core issue is the economic system which is capitalist, neocolonial and hopelessly dependent on foreign interest. The economic survives primarily on the export of crude oil without any value added. It is a pipeline economic in which the oil and gas are mined and transported via pipelines to export terminals to support industrial prosperity of foreign nations.

Change Agents In An Emerging Democratic Process (2)

Who Is Afraid Of Change? In social science thought the concept of change is employed to designate a significant alteration in social structures, rules of conduct, values, cultural products, and symbols. In the intellectual context, change also refers to development and transformation of human society from a lower to a higher or more advanced level. The use of the term connotes progress, growth, qualitative leap and even revolution. In Nigeria’s political experience, almost all electoral parties subscribe to or proclaim the goals of change. Quite often, many politicians interpret change to mean no more that the replacement of one set of administrators or office holders by another. In this discussion, we hope to examine the idea of change that relates to significant alteration in social structure, rules of conduct, and values.

Change Agents In An Emerging Democratic Process (1)

The restoration of elected democratic rule in Nigeria since 1999 has thrown up a fresh debate about the nature of change in the country’s political process. Understandably, the termination of military dictatorship generated high expectation on the part of the masses of the people who were the main victims of the tyranny under the military. However, the process of the transition to elected democratic rule influenced the quality and direction of change that followed. First, the momentum of the anti-military uprising was determined by the June 12, 1993, presidential polls. That election involved two political parties founded and funded by the dictatorial military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. They were the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and National Republican Convention (NRC). The SDP candidate, Chief M.K.O. Abiola was heading for victory when the military junta cancelled or annulled the results.
